2011 Juunihitoe

In 2011, Rose-chan returns to her Japanese roots to wear the elite ceremonial robes of a Japanese court lady – dentouteki kimono (traditional kimono), also known as juunihitoe, or ‘twelve-layered robe’. The various layers are made of silk, with the innermost layer in white. The colours and the arrangements of the layers are very important, which each colour sporting a poetic name, such as ‘crimson plum of the spring’. The layers are only fully visible around the sleeves and the neck, and their arrangement and colours are indicative of the taste and rank of the lady wearing them.
